History
Hello and welcome to the website of Armagh Blues Football Club. A brief history
on the Armagh Blues as the interest in football in the Armagh area
keeps growing from strength to strength.
In
early 2007 Darren Crowe and Gordon Lee were approached by a number of
youths and teenagers
and asked would they start a football club. So
after numerous meetings and general talk in the Armagh area it was decided
that we would try
and start a new team so a meeting was held in the Victoria Bar, Armagh
and with over 20 attending it was decided that a couple of friendly
games were arranged, first of all playing Division 3 side Broomhill going
down
3-2. Our second game was against Banbridge Rangers, Mid Ulster Division
4 champions and recorded a defeat of 3-1. Our final friendly was played
against Bourneview Young Men which ended in a 0-0 draw.
So a good strong base was in place and our first official club meeting was held
where we appointed our club Chairman and Committee members. We started
off our meeting in need of a name, a few names brought up were Armagh
Rangers, Armagh Crusaders, Orangefield Rangers and after a long debate
we finally agreed to call ourselves Armagh Blues and taking the credit
was Darren Crowe who came up with the name.
After a brief history on the famous old Armagh Blues team from the 70s who
won the famous Armstrong cup 10 times, a team that was made up of Glenavon
players and supporters from Armagh. It was agreed
a new era
for the Blues was now on the way. A sponsor was found for
the home and away kits and a lot of fundraising nights took place.
The club applied for the local Lonsdale league and were accepted to play in
the 2007/08 season, the following year the club applied to join the Mid
Ulster football league division 4 and with great joy were accepted
and offered a place in division 4 in the 2008/09 season.
As are first team gained a new
management set up in the summer of 2009 and the whole new buzz was all
round the club we seen a major number
off new signings arrive for our first team squad. So instead of seening
players leave the club and join other clubs we formed our seconds team
and what a
success theyve been in just two weeks they had twenty five players at there
training sessions. So club chairman Darren Crowe entered them into the
local Bernard Pattison Lonsdale League division 2 with another ten newly
formed
teams from the Armagh / Dungannon area for the season 2009/2010. We hope
that the 2009 season will bring silverware to the club from both teams
and we
wish them every success throughout the season , to be continued .
